I've been out of the web design game for nearly a decade so I figured I might not know what my options are these days to start a community on an oldschool style forum. I plan to do lots of customization and possibly integrate with WordPress. I have experience with vBulletin, phpBB, IPB, XMB, UBB and a few others.
Is vbulletin still one of the best PHP software for creating oldschool forums

so maybe XenForo is a good choise for you, becauser the time for vBulletin is over since 2010.
